World Team Trophy press release
A new and unique Team event will be added to the IPA calendar and will be televised LIVE on Freesports from the 3rd-5th January 2020.
Featuring 24 Teams from both the UK and overseas, a round robin format will whittle the teams down to just 8, who then play in a single elimination format to find the inaugural World Team Trophy Champions.
The event will be played in a unique style, with Team, Triples, Doubles and singles all featuring in each match, and will of course be played under the intense pressure of Live television and the 30 second shot clock – all overseas Teams will be guaranteed at least one match in front of the cameras.
Each Team will consist of 5 players, of which a maximum of two can be IPA Professionals, and no player can play in more than three of the categories (Team, Triples, Doubles, Singles), while all players must be from the same Country – the winning Team will take home a cool £5,000 for their efforts.
IPA Chairman Kevin Barton commented “Whilst Team events are not historically our thing, we had the opportunity to create something new after discussions with our colleagues at Freesports. Our intention is to grow this new event over the coming years, and our focus will be to try and attract overseas Teams to come and take part. With the first edition likely to take place in Scotland, there is sure to be a great atmosphere on top of the fantastic pool that we see week in, week out at IPA events”
