Lagging for the break is a method for determining who will make the first break in a match.
Both players will play an object ball against the bottom cushion from the baulk line and the ball that ends closest to the top cushion has “won” the lag and therefore breaks first.
- Both players must make there lags at roughly the same time
- If a ball hits a side rail, that is automatic loss of the lag
- if a ball “jaws”, that is automatic loss of the lag
