First memory of playing pool?
First started playing pool against my Mum and Dad at the age of seven years old in the local club, we used to play 2-3 hours every night. I played my first league match when I was eight-nine years old, it was a little bit special at the time because the players I played against week in week out were in their 20’s 30’s 40’s etc.
What/who inspired you to play pool
By the time I was 10 I was in the best teams playing the best players. The players in my team at the time were some of the best local players around, competing with these guys night after night to try and be the best inspired me to firstly be one of the best players in my team then to go on to being one of the best players in the league at a young age.
Cue (details – eg wood type, tip size, how long you have had it)
My cue is a John Parris Ultimate, 19oz, 9.25mm 57.5in, ash shaft with ebony butt four secondary splices down each side splices in olivewood with black and white veneers. I had this cue custom made in 2008.
Years a Pro
Best victory & why
My best single victory was probably when I beat Gareth Potts in the quarter-final in a pro event in my first year as a pro when he was ranked number one. I won 8-4 and I had six 8 ball clearances.
I have beaten most if not all the top players at some point while playing on the IPA tour, but my best win was tour four, 2014 when I won the IPA European singles. To win any tour/pro event is some going when you’re playing against the best plyers in the world.
Most feared opponent & why
I don’t really fear any of the players to be honest, I know when I’ve been putting the time in and playing well I can be a handful for anyone, I just love competing at the highest level.
Ambitions in the sport?
To be the World Champion and World No 1
Advice to any up and coming players
Play in as many tournaments as you can and practice with quality players, put the time in, practice, practice, practice.
Why the IPA?
If you want to play against the best players in the world and play the best rules this is the tour for you.
Also Kev Barton and the team helping him are really nice helpful people taking the sport in the right direction.
