Craig Marsh returns to the winner’s circle
After an absence of nearly two years, Wales’ Craig Marsh finally captured another IPA title when winning the World Series event in Morocco, with victory over compatriot and current World Champion Ben Davies. Amazingly, the last IPA event Craig won was the 2017 World title, and he was certainly a relieved man to finally get over the line after a classic contest, played in front of a huge and eager audience at the Megapool club in the heart of Tangiers.
In the final it was Craig who sprinted to an early 6-0 lead and despite a characteristic fight back from Ben Davies it was not to be his day and Craig took the title, the money and more importantly the priceless ranking points that matter so much for future events and seeding these days.
In the semi-finals, Craig overcame Scotland’s Mark Boyle whilst Ben defeated England’s Greg Batten.
Ben Davies quickly made amends for his loss with a superb victory over Boyle in the Moroccan Open final. A high-quality match which featured dish after dish went the way of the Welshman despite the best fighting qualities on show from Boyle, who could never quite get level with his opponent.
The good news continued for Craig and Ben who combined to take the doubles title with victory over surprise finalists Cherkaoui and Alaoui from Morocco, who defeated the Boyle/Batten pairing in a thrilling match which was hugely welcomed and unsurprisingly applauded by the home crowd.
Finally, it was a clean sweep for the IPA as they secured the Team title in an exciting encounter with Team Morocco, which rounded off a great weekend of the finest blackball action in the World Series.
We would like to extend our thanks to MyCherif zine el Abidine for his amazing hard work in making this fantastic event happen and the incredible hospitality shown towards the IPA players, and we look forward to returning next year.
